Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. John 14:21
Love than Obedience
Love Comes before Obedience
Jesus quotes Moses, saying: Love the LORD your God with all of your heart and with all of your soul and with all of your strength. Deuteronomy 6:5, Matthew 22:37-38, Mark 12:29-30, Luke 10:27
This is three-fold, total, all-inclusive love that involves one’s whole being. We are to love the LORD with the center of our being (heart). We are to love the LORD with all that we are (soul). Finally, we are to love the LORD with all of our resources and assets (strength [and mind]) .
Moses explains that as a consequence of this all-inclusive love for the LORD, that the commands of the LORD will be upon our hearts. Deuteronomy 6:6.
In other words, if we love the LORD with a total, all-inclusive love, then we will obey His commands with our whole being.
The Slaves or God are called to love the LORD with all of their heart, soul, and strength, which results in their obedience to His commands.
But note: Love of God comes before obedience. We cannot obey God without first loving Him.
