The Commands of Jesus

If you love Jesus with all of your heart, soul, and strength, then you will obey His commands.

Do you know the commands of Jesus?

For purposes of studying the commands of Jesus, we have divided them into twelve groups.

DISCLAIMER:  While every effort was made to be comprehensive, we realize that not all believers agree on what is a command of the Lord Jesus.  We further note that any effort to systematize the words of Jesus are artificial, and yet the Church has systematized the teachings of Jesus from the very early days in order to help people know and practice the Lord’s teachings. Indeed, since World War II, the effort to systematize the teachings of Jesus by para-church ministries and local churches has proceeded with unrestrained vigor.

SUGGESTION:  Use this study as a helpful tool to learn the commands of Jesus, but keep your focus on the actual words of Jesus, i.e. do the attached Bible studies, and ask the Lord to illuminate his word to you.

Repent of your sins, unless you repent you will perish.

You must be born again. Believe in Jesus for eternal life.

To those who believe and receive Jesus, He gave the right to become children of God.

Blessed are those who have not seen the resurrected Christ and yet believe in him for salvation.

Whoever believes in Jesus, believes in the one who sent him, the Father. Believe Jesus is in the Father and the Father is in Jesus.

Follow Jesus, and he will make you fishers of men.

Declare what God has done for you.

Make disciples of all nations.

Acknowledge Christ before men.

Do not stop the one speaking and acting in Jesus’ name.

When they deliver you over, do not be anxious what you will say, it will be given you.

Pray to the Lord of the harvest for laborers.

Whoever receives you receives Jesus, and the one who sent Jesus.

Dealing with Others

Do not: be angry, lust, retaliate, judge others, take the place of honor; commit adultery, tempt others to sin, or divorce except in matters of adultery.

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Specifically: Love one another; love everyone even your enemies; do good to all, even those who cannot repay you; give to everyone, without expectation of return; and forgive others their trespasses against you, as there is no limit to the number of times you must forgive.

The greater among you should serve the lesser.

Be kind to the least of the Lord’s brothers.

When a brother sins against you, deal with the sin in graduated steps.

When you sin against a brother, as soon as possible try to be reconciled.

Honor your Father and Mother.

Deny yourself, take up your cross and follow the example of Christ.

Do not exult yourself or take the place of honor, rather humble yourself like a child.

Whoever would be the leader or the greatest must be servant of all.

Give to the needy and fast with anonymity so that no knows you are doing it.

Pray with simplicity and humility.

Pray in Jesus name.

Pray with faith, believe, and do not doubt, receive what you ask for in prayer.

Pray with the simplicity of the Lord’s Prayer.

Pray with faith, persistence and without ceasing.

When you pray: ask, seek, and knock, and it will be given you.

If two of you agree on earth to ask the Father, it will be done for you.

The Lord’s Return

Be alert, be ready and watch for the Lord’s return.

Use the assets of God wisely to further his kingdom.

See that no one leads you astray about the Lord’s Return.

Be on guard for false christs and false prophets.

Civil Authorities

Pay your taxes and give honor to those in authority where honor is due because of their position.

Planning for Life

Do not be anxious and worry about the things of this world, but seek first the kingdom of God. Gather up wealth in heaven not on this earth.

Beware how you act.

Beware of your words, because by your words you are justified or condemned.

Beware of those who make pretenses.

Beware those who prey on widows.

Beware of: false prophets, evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander, hypocrisy, and covetousness.

Obeying the commands of Jesus

Man shall live by every word that comes from the mouth of God.

The wise man hears the words of Jesus and obeys them.

The foolish man hears the words of Jesus and does not obey them.

Whoever hears the word God and does it is Jesus’ brother, sister, and mother.

Abide in Jesus’ word and abide in Jesus, then his words will abide in you.

If you keep and obey Jesus’ commands, then you will abide in his love.

Whoever abides in Jesus will bear much fruit.

If you abide in Jesus’ word, then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.

Blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it.

If you love Jesus, you will keep his commandments.

Our Relationship with God

The Lord our God, the Lord is one; Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.

Worship and serve God and him only.

You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.

Do not take an oath before God, let your yes be yes and your no be no.

Whoever believes in Jesus, believes in the one who sent him, the Father.

The Lord’s Supper, do this in remembrance of the Son of God who died for us.

God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

Whoever sins against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.

Do not make my Father’s house a house of trade.
